A new bill is threatening clean energy progress in California. Right now, we should be speeding up the growth of rooftop solar in California, not putting up barriers to its progress. AB 1139 would effectively stall the growth of this important clean energy technology and make it more difficult for consumers to tap into the power of the sun.

Rooftop solar not only reduces our dependence on fossil fuels and helps protect our planet for future generations, but it has many benefits for consumers as well. Distributed solar power can provide important grid stability and support services, which will become increasingly valuable as California's grid moves toward a greater share of renewable energy. Solar energy plus storage systems are also already helping Californians keep their lights on during blackouts without the need for polluting diesel generators.

We should be doing everything we can to expand rooftop solar so more Californians can reap its benefits. AB 1139 would undercut the incredible progress we've seen in our state already and send us backwards when we should be picking up the pace.
