Tell Governor Newsom: It's time to move California beyond plastic.

Nothing we use for a few minutes should pollute our future for hundreds of years. Tell the governor to reduce plastic waste and improve recycling systems.

Subject: Support for Circular Economy/Plastic-Reduction Bills

We have a huge plastic pollution problem in our state. Scientists have discovered plastic pollution from Lake Tahoe to the marine sanctuary of Monterey Bay, and even inside our food and beverages -- potentially exposing us to hazardous compounds and additives.

Nothing we use for a few minutes should harm our environment and public health for hundreds of years. We need to take steps to move beyond plastic.

The legislature recently passed a package of bills that would move California beyond these harmful single use plastics. These bills would mandate truthful recycling labeling, encourage the use of reusable bottles, require single-use silverware and condiments be given out only 'on request' in delivery orders and more. Below is the full list of bills:

* SB 343 (Allen) prohibits use of the chasing arrows "recycling symbol" on products and packaging that are not recyclable,
  * AB 818 (Bloom) prohibits wipes from being labeled "flushable" and requires a "Do not Flush" label,
  * AB 881 (Gonzalez) restricts exports of mixed plastics from counting towards waste diversion goals,
  * AB 962 (Kamlager) incorporates reusable glass bottles into the Beverage Container Recycling Program,
  * AB 1201 (Ting) ensures products labeled "compostable" break down in California composting facilities,
  * AB 1276 (Carrillo) expands the "plastic straw upon request" law to take-out accessories.
